Step One

Draw outlines of the pumpkins you would like to create onto a piece of wood. Do not press too hard when drawing the lines, in case you want to erase and draw them differently. You can create one pumpkin or several, it all depends on the look you want to achieve.

Step Two

Use joint compound to ‘draw’ the lines of each pumpkin, keeping in mind the peaks and valleys that naturally grow on a real pumpkin. No pumpkin is identical and sometimes unique is better! Be patient, take your time and don’t be afraid to make a mistake. You can always wash the joint compound off of your piece of wood and start again. There is nothing permanent at this point and you can be as creative as you desire!! Keep in mind that the thicker you make it, the longer it will take to dry. You could also paint the joint compound on all over the pumpkin shape and then use a clay sculpting tool (or knife) to come back in and ‘carve’ out the lines or ridges of the pumpkins.

Step Three

Once the joint compound is dry, the next step is to paint your pumpkins. Add different colors and blend the coloring to, again, accentuate the curves and lines of a pumpkin. The pumpkins don’t have to be orange. You can make them white or green or yellow. Neutrals or bright vibrant colors, create them to match your theme or your home decor.

Step Four

The last step is to add any sticks or bows you would like. Mix and Match textures and colors. Get creative, be unique, but most of all: HAVE FUN!!!

And that’s it! You now have yourself some fun pumpkins to hang or set on a shelf. We would love to see your creations! Feel free to share photos on any of our social media platforms.
